Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a 12 month treatment program conducted on outpatient basis and includes weekly individual therapy sessions, weekly group skills training, and 24/7 telephone coaching for the client.
Us therapists also attend weekly consultation for DBT, which is the fourth component for ensuring adherence to the model. DBT is evidence based via peer-reviewed research in order to treat disorders of emotional dysregulation (including Borderline Personality Disorder, Depression, Bipolar, Addictions, and others that can include a variety of self-harm behaviors).
Group skills training increases knowledge of coping skills, individual therapy attends to personal goals, and phone coaching helps to practice the skills when you need them the most.
DBT is a viable option if you have tried other types of therapies that haven’t seemed to work. A 6-month commitment is requested for members choosing to participate, in order to cover all the information in skills training.
DBT assumes (as a context for treatment) that the client is doing the best they can and want to improve because life is unbearable as it is currently. We honor a non-judgmental approach and are committed to meeting you where you are and creating a life worth living. Following your own compass!
