who

Getting to know Jessica

Dr. Ulmer completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) at La Salle University in Philadelphia. She has a wide range of clinical experience, which includes working with children, teens, and adults with emotion dysregulation and behavioral dysregulation, relationship issues, suicidal thinking, substance abuse issues, and difficulty with life transitions. Dr. Ulmer is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which identifies unhelpful thinking patterns and how they impact your feelings and behaviors as well as mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches. She also utilizes motivational interviewing concepts to meet individuals where they are at in terms of their readiness to make changes in their life. Dr. Ulmer is also intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, a treatment modality that helps people learn to control their emotions and reduce maladaptive behaviors. She has experience in training in providing exposure therapy to treat trauma. Dr. Ulmer specializes in the treatment of Eating Disorders and body image issues, trauma, suicidal behaviors, and Borderline Personality Disorder.

Dr. Ulmer’s views on therapy are rooted in the belief that our environment as well as our biology interact to influence our beliefs about ourselves, others, the world, and our futures, and may lead to maladaptive behaviors. Dr. Ulmer believes that each individual is unique and brings to the table their own expertise based on their life experiences. She strives to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for individuals to explore their difficulties and helps each client draw upon their strengths in order to meet identified goals and achieve a life worth living.

Dr. Ulmer is a native East Coaster enjoying the sun and warmth that Southern California brings. When she is not working, she can be found at the beach, practicing yoga, enjoying the outdoors whether reading a book outside or hiking, and spending time with her goofy golden retriever.
